Something I read somewhere stuck with me: “Hope is what’s left when you have no power.” As an insane optimist, I found that hard to take; as someone who considers himself a realist (yeah, great, who doesn’t?) I think it is absolutely correct. If something is important to you and you have the power to affect an outcome, you will. Without that power, you hope.
Sorry guys, hope’s not going to do us any good. We must take (assume, gain, accept, demand, create) power.
Hope is a waste of a tiny, little, useless bit of energy. Hope is not “better than nothing”. Hope is not doing something. “Hope” has no intrinsic meaning. Hope is a feeling, a thought, a concept without substance. The opposite of hope isn’t hopeless, the opposite of hope is power.
